Reading:
Children improve their reading by reading; therefore, students will be reading a number of different texts through the use of:
- Their Pearson Literature book
- IXL Reading and English practice
- Selected novels
Students will be expected to bring an AR book of their choosing to class everyday and complete a reading log. They will also be completing AR tests and book reports throughout the year.
Students will be asked to:
- read selections
- write written responses to the literature
- keep reader response journals
- complete selected papers
- have literature circle discussions
English:
Children improve their writing by writing AND reading; therefore, students will complete a number of different activities that include:
- Grammar instruction
- Writing argumentative, expository, and
narrative essays
- Daily Oral Language (DOL)
- Giving speeches
Binder:
Students need at least a 2-inch binder that will be kept in class at all times. Each student will be responsible for keeping his or her notebook in order, and keeping track of all papers. Anytime a parent wishes to inspect that notebook, feel free to come to the classroom.
